Using The Other Social Network To Land A Job (and Become Famous In Your Circles) #Instagram

Using The Other Social Network To Land A Job (and Become Famous In Your Circles) #Instagram This is a story about personal branding, social networking, unsocial networking, and doing many right things.  Inspiring?  Yep. Replicatable?  Perhaps I saw this article and thought this is going to kind of be boring, and a one-hit-wonder kind of a story).  Then I read it and was really quite intrigued. When people think of social networking, especially in the career space, I think they think of LinkedIn (people are getting tired of their lame policies and changing free features to premium, not to mention their walled-garden approach to the rest of the world), Facebook (many are still confused about the whole personal/professional thing), and Twitter (was useful a few years ago, then the pop media and pop stars came and its become a polluted place of yuck, with very little interaction (compared to the good ol days)). No one thinks of using Instagram to get a job, do they?  I wouldnt have, until I read this: No Resume, No Cover Letter â€" Instagram Scored the Job The problem with thinking Instagram is going to get YOU your next job is that this story is about a certain person (Clark Walker) in a certain industry (profession: barber) in a certain place (NYC, of course!).  Will this work for an attorney or accountant, or for someone in Podunk, USA?  It is not that likely, methinks. But it sure worked for Clark, and apparently this one-time med school student is living his dream, which is awesome. I wrote a post about LinkedIns competition, where I basically said it isnt ONE competitor that is going to take LinkedIn down.  It wont be Facebook, Twitter, or the other biggies (instagram, snapchat, pinterest, quora, etc.).  It will be that people are bored and not getting their needs and wants met by the one-size-fits-nobody approach of professional networking.  Recruiters have already figured this out and instead of trying to harvest conversations and activity in LinkedIn, they are finding out where their target audience is hanging out and going to them there. Heres my post about LinkedIns competition: Death By A Thousand Papercuts (aka, LinkedIn Competition): Github. Heres a more indepth take on TechCrunch: The Biggest Threat To LinkedIn: The Power Of Many, Not One Kudos to Clark for living the dream, and using tools to help make that happen. The New Recruitment Strategy Jobs that Hunt You - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

The New Recruitment Strategy Jobs that Hunt You - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Your LinkedIn profile and resume may soon disappear or diminish in importance when it comes to recruiters finding you and approaching you with a great job offer. There’s something called Big Data that may supplant any other approach to matching the perfect job with you. Gild is among several new companies that scour the web for your presence. Part programmer, bot and recruiter, Gild and the like develop specific algorithms for particular jobs and corporate cultures. Then, they trawl the net looking for candidates. They don’t stop at the usual places, like LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. They may include those networks, but they dig much deeper into your behavior online. And, they examine the feedback you get from other people who matter professionally. For example, a start-up in Silicon Valley with less budget than its rivals have for paying programmers hired Gild to find an opinionated, inventive and productive, self-taught programmer who failed to go to college but wrote code available on public sites that attracted other users to use it on their websites. Tall order but they found the guy. He’d been way below the poverty line without a job and now is the first of ten employees living it up (okay, in front of a screen) with a 6-figure salary. With the company growing to 40 or more, his social skills might stunt his career there, but he got the toe hold he needed to perhaps go start-up on his own. Searching the web for signs of good, prospective employees isn’t just for tech companies in need of programmers. More and more, you are the detritus of your web surfing, and even more: a representation of yourself made by the comments, interactions, contributions, and expressions of emotion you provide by showing up in the public square that is the Internet. It’s not just what you write, but how you write it that matters to employers using these bots to find the real you. And, it’s your peers’ reactions that might matter more than anything else. Do people respond favorably to you: do you influence their choices or as Seth Godin characterizes it: do you lead your tribes on any area of significance? RemarkableHire focuses almost solely on how your online contributions are rated by others. Entelo functions a bit like eHarmony does for potential lovers. Entelo uses 70 variables to evaluate if you might be ready for a career change â€" even before you know it. Sure, these companies bring you in or Skype with you to make sure you really are a person with the right abilities, opinions and requisite social interaction skills. But, what’s really interesting about this new trend is that they know you really well before they ask you: “What’s your greatest weakness?” In fact, interviews might be more about:   do you know yourself as well as they know you? Because, like ardent fans of Bradley Cooper: algorithms have scoured the net to uncover and then, interpret and imagine who you really are. What does this boil down to? Get busy on the web in all the right places. Show up on your industry sites, create and contribute to virtual projects created by volunteers, and document what you do and know. That is: don’t just update your LinkedIn profile: do your thing in all the right places. Get up on crowdsourcing sites, including DesignCrowd and even Kickstarter to show off your ability to engage, impress and lead. Author: Nance Rosen  is the author of Speak Up! Succeed. Why Those Male Hormones Are Important To Your Health

Why Those Male Hormones Are Important To Your Health All women are all too familiar with the effects of hormones on their lives. But many of us tend to overlook the importance of testosterone.  Yes, your body needs testosterone for your continued good health.  According to WebMD, low levels of testosterone can result in loss of muscle mass and tone, decreased bone density, and diminished sexual interest in menopausal women.  All those things you may have been attributing to loss of estrogen.  Heres a look at how low testosterone in women can be surprisingly  significant in disrupting your bodys normal balance, and what to do about it. Low Testosterone and Hormone Replacement Probably the most common form of hormone replacement for women is the use of pills or patches to replenish low estrogen.  But hormone replacement is also used in many other medical or age-related conditions.  From androgen therapy to gender conditions, the mix of hormones in the human body is critical to both physical and mental health. So what are some of the other symptoms that can be the result of low testosterone in women?  The answer may surprise you! Low Testosterone Effects As it turns out, many of the symptoms commonly attributed to low estrogen can also be caused by low testosterone.  From hot flashes to the effects on mood, our physical and emotional well-being depends on the proper balance of the bodys naturally occurring hormones.  For an extensive list, take a look at   https://hghinjections.us/ .  But heres a few: Osteoporosis Inability to sleep Heart issues High cholesterol Diabetes Upside, Downside, and Odd Side The good news is that most hormone deficiency, or excess, can be treated and corrected. Virtually all of the symptoms listed above can be reversed or avoided with proper hormone therapy. Of course, there are considerations.  Our finely-tuned bodies dont respond well when age or other factors throws our hormones out of balance.  And that includes when treatment pushes the balance in the opposite direction.  The results can be equally distressing.  Most women dont care for additional unwanted facial or body hair.  And most men would rather avoid breast development.   Balance is the key. As with many aspects of the human body, science is continually learning more about the effects of hormones.  Sometimes, new knowledge can be quite surprising.  For example, it was discovered that when experiencing new-found love, women tend to have higher testosterone.  Men, on the other hand, tend to have less than normal testosterone when theyve recently begun a romantic relationship! Hormones Are Important To Your Health Hormone therapy isnt something to do it yourself.  But its good to know that with qualified guidance, you can overcome many of the effects of hormonal imbalance.

Creating Thought Leadership for Personal Branding Success - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Creating Thought Leadership for Personal Branding Success - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career The strongest personal brands are anchored by published books that establish the authors thought leadership, or proven expertise, in their field. Unfortunately, however, authors with subject area expertise often publish their first book too late! The best time to write and publish a book is before you need it, while you have a secure job and source of income. Youre unnecessarily handicapping your success if you wait until you need a book to establish a new business or improve your chances of getting hired in a new job. These thoughts went through my head while examining Mitchell Levys latest book, #Creating Thought Leaders Tweet: Helping Experts Inside of Corporations Amplify Their Thought Leadership. My story Basically, many years ago, at the peak of my professional success, after enjoying a high standard of living, I found myself looking for a job. It wasnt until after months of stressful and fruitless job hunting that I wrote my way to success, writing a book that opened doors of opportunity and control, enabling me to enjoy my freedom as well as earn far more than I ever expected. But, if I had written my book earlier If I had written my book earlier, however, I would have avoided months of stress and uncertainty, and been able to enjoy far greater successand thats why I recommend you read #Creating Thought Leaders Tweet! I dont want you to make the mistake I, and so many others, have done, which is to put off writing your first book and miss out on years of opportunities and enhanced income. #Creating Thought Leaders Tweet is a $20 book that can change your perspective on creating your personal brand as a thought leader in your field. Its not only a guide to creating your thought leadership brand, like other THiNKaha Books, (including my book about book titles), its written to be read in less than half an hour! 140 ideas shared in 140 characters, or less The books format proves that profound and provocative career-changing advice can be concisely shared, such as: Tweet 6: If youre not a thought leader in your field, someone else will be, so step in and start becoming one today! Tweet 32: Know how others have communicated your points in the past and how you are communicating them differently. Tweet 76: There is one reason thought leaders make it look so easy: they work at it all day, every day. What youll learn The 140 creating thought leadership ideas, examples, and tips are organized in ten sections: Why You Should Be a Thought Leader? What Does It Take to be a Thought Leader? Who Has Made the Transition to Thought Leader/Guru? Benefits of Being a Thought Leader Defining Your Space and Creating Your Opportunity Craft and Refine Your Message Thought Leaders Need H.E.L.P. Tips to Start on the Thought Leader Path Today Be a Great Radio or TV Guest and Be Quoted in the News What Else Should You Be Doing, or thinking About? There are also two appendices, including one on crowdsourcing a thought leadership book. My favorite Tweet One of the biggest legacies of the THiNKaha Books success is proof that conciseness not only informs, but also sells. In a time-strapped world, the shorter your message, the more effective it can be. You no longer need to write an encylopedia in order to make a difference in someone elses lifeor your own. Mitchell Levy expresses it this way: Tweet 94: Note that a 250-word blog post or a 140-character tweet can be thought leadership. Whats your take? As Tweet 77 points out, both you and your employer can benefit when you write a thought leadership book that helps accomplish both you and your organizations goals.   Given that theres a potential win-win situation for both you and your employer, whats keeping you from embarking on creating your own thought leadership for personal branding success? If you are inspired to create a THiNKaha book (20-60 hours of time), you can read more at their site. Share your questions and concerns below, as comments Author: Roger C. Jobs Without Experience

Jobs Without ExperienceThere are so many jobs out there that people wonder whether they are too new to get them without experience. The reality is that there are jobs out there for any experience level, but people should avoid taking the job if they haven't been through the experience for a while before they start. If you have a few years of experience in the workplace, you can usually get a lot of work out of a business career. A business may be an opportunity for your skills and some experience. Even if you want to take a technical job and pay someone to give you training in your area of expertise, it is still a good idea to have your own business if you have a bit of experience. Many businesses offer a volunteer program in order to get individuals to do jobs that they otherwise would not do. If you are interested in working for free to get experience, this can be a good thing to consider. But if you just want to do it for money, then you need to be aware that you are probably going to get paid a lot more than you would get the same kind of job at a traditional business. There are other jobs that are basically a side project. It may not make any sense to try to put together a company to run with, but it does make sense to start a home business as a side project. These are the kinds of jobs that you need to know what you are doing before you try to sell.To be eligible for a community college job, you must be at least 18 years old. In order to be eligible for a traditional college or university, you need to be at least 18 years old and have had full-time schooling for at least one year. If you have been out of high school for more than a year, you will need to get approval from the employment office before you apply. When applying for a community college job, you can go to the campus for a tour of the building or you can send in a resume and information online. It is better to meet with an employment counselor or the admissions department to discuss the job.It is a lso a good idea to look over the requirements for employment with the college before you apply. Most likely, if you have ever taken an English course, you would be considered a candidate for an entry-level position. You may also be asked to take another exam or give a test in order to prove that you know English. There are so many different schools that offer education in the arts and sciences. For those who have been studying for a while and are still not sure what they want to do with their life, consider taking the SAT or ACT test.

Getting Hired Is Not A Transaction

Getting Hired Is Not A Transaction Sorry to break it to you but getting hired doesnt happen as a result of a single transaction like submitting a resume online.  But wouldnt that be nice. Eliminate Frustration Its  frustrating when you dont get a response or a call after submitting your online application. I understand. But your frustration has to do with your unmet expectations, not what the HR team does or doesnt do. Furthermore, there are also situations  that will frustrate you: You  wont  get a meeting just because you ask for one. No one is entitled to connect with you on LinkedIn. Your emailed request for a conversation with a stranger will be ignored. Even your Tweet is likely to fall on deaf ears. Fat chance youll  get a job if you go around asking everyone you know for one. You have to earn the right to get these things.  And you do that by establishing a  relationship first. Strong  relationships are based on knowing, liking and trusting you. So lets re-think this. If you are serious about landing your next job, stop obsessing over how many jobs youve applied to (and been frustrated by when you didnt get a response) or how many people havent fed you job leads. Job search isnt transactional. Instead,  work on building trusting relationships with people with the single goal of getting to know each other- nothing more. No hidden agendas. No ulterior motives. Just get to know people. Heres the deal, for so long, youve been taught to follow instructions, play by the rules, be compliant. These are important, to an extent. But these rules dont apply to real life. Those who  have achieved success (landed dream jobs and/or get what they wanted), seldom did it by playing by someone elses rules. Successful people have  supporters, allies, informants, buddies or someone who advocated for them. Unfortunately, schools and  employers put more emphasis on getting you to play by the rules than on teaching you interpersonal skills like how to  meet people, build mutually beneficial  relationships and help others. What ultimately influences  success usually has to do with how  trustworthy or credible you are. Ever Bought A Car? When was the last time you plunked down over 20K on a car because you saw a flyer in the mail? The flyer may inspire you to take your next steps and learn more about the car. But that would have to be a pretty great flyer from a brand you recognized and/or trusted. What Im suggesting is that your decision to invest in a new vehicle is influenced by many factors. More than you may admit to. The truth is, hiring is not a transaction like buying a car. There are numerous factors that go into the final decision to purchase/hire someone. Ultimately the decision to hire someone is based on a  person-to-person exchange. Change How You Do It Instead of putting all your effort into tweaking the  resume, why not put the majority of your effort into building relationships and NOT expecting anything in return, other than learning about someone. If you did this with the same sense of frequency and urgency you use when searching  the job boards, it could change your outcome. One last thought to ponder. Could your inability to forge trusting relationships be  the reason youre not  landing a job (and holding on to a job for that matter)?
